Back in January, President Biden made several significant <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elawrencelaw.com\/blog\/president-bidens-new-executive-orders-on-immigration\/\">immigration policy changes<\/a> in hopes to create a fairer immigration system that ensures public safety while still being fair to those attempting to legally become US citizens. Now, as we enter spring, more positive news keeps coming! This time, the Secretary of Homeland Security has designated Venezuela for TPS. What does that mean for you? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Venezuela DPS Designation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Venezuela Temporary Protected Status (TPS) designation\nwill last for 18 months, from March 9, 2021 through September 9, 2022. From now\nuntil September 5, 2021, Venezuelan nationals and anyone with no established\nnationality who last lived in Venezuela will be granted the opportunity to\napply for this designation, along with an Employee Authorization Document\n(EAD). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a game changer! At one point Venezuela had a steadily\ngrowing economy, but it has since crumbled significantly. TPS protects those\nwho cannot safely return to their home country because of the economic\nsituation and civil unrest. It\u2019s also worth noting that the TPS could be\nextended depending on how the situation evolves as we move through the initial\n18-month phase. Thus far, it is estimated that the program could give over\n300,000 Venezuelans protection from deportation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new TPS policy comes as an extension of the Deferred\nEnforced Departure (DED) memorandum initially enacted on January 19<sup>th<\/sup>\nof this year. This <a href=\"https:\/\/www.federalregister.gov\/documents\/2021\/01\/25\/2021-01718\/deferred-enforced-departure-for-certain-venezuelans\">memorandum<\/a>\nprotected certain Venezuelans from deportation and offered the opportunity to\napply for work permits.
