Discover the key details in our latest blog post!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">100 Day Pause on Deportations<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The first major change announced on January 20<sup>th<\/sup>\nis a 100 day pause on deportations for many undocumented immigrants. The change\nwent fully into effect a few days later on Friday, January 22. The reason for\nthis temporary pause is simply to create time for the new administration to\nreassess priorities when it comes to immigration. By the end of the 100 day\nstretch, the hope is to have a fairer immigration system in place that ensures\npublic safety while still being fair to those attempting to legally become US\ncitizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Changes to the Migrant Protocols Protection<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>On Thursday, January 21, the Department of Homeland Security\nofficially stopped adding new individuals to Migrant Protection Protocols.&nbsp; Previously, this program forced individuals\nwithout proper documentation to be returned to Mexico until their entire\nimmigration process was completed. This is a notable step forward for human\nrights, but there are a few things we need to keep in mind while the revised\nprogram is still in its infancy:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>The new changes do not impact those already\nparticipating in MPP.<\/strong> As the process undergoes revision in the coming\nmonths, the 60,000 migrants forced back to Mexico up until now will have to\nremain there until further notice. <\/li><li><strong>The new legislation only applies to those who\nare already in the United States. <\/strong>This means that for now, new asylum\nseekers are risking potential expulsion just as they were under the previous\nadministration. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>While these two points do create temporary reasons for\nconcern, we are still off to a great start in immigration reform so far this\nyear.
