Starting October 1,\n2020, all air travelers are required to present a state-issued driver\u2019s\nlicense, valid passport, military ID or REAL ID-compliant driver\u2019s license to\nboard a flight within the United States. If you are not prepared for REAL ID\ncompliance, you will not be able to get to the Transportation Security\nAdministration (TSA) checkpoint or fly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Is REAL ID Compliance?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>REAL ID compliance is designed to make commercial aviation\nsafer and validate the identity of anyone boarding an airplane. The Department\nof Homeland Security is working alongside states to ensure that REAL ID\ncompliance is taking effect and that citizens are being notified of new\nrequirements. In January 2017, only 26 states had licenses that were considered\nREAL ID compliant. Now, 47 out of 50 states are REAL ID compliant. While many\nstates have made progress, only 27% of Americans currently have a REAL ID,\nwhich means that there\u2019s a good chance you haven\u2019t received yours yet. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Types of Identification Will Count?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Outside of REAL IDs, you can use other different methods of\nidentification, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>US Passport<\/li><li>US Passport Card<\/li><li>DHS Trusted Traveler Card<\/li><li>Border Crossing Card<\/li><li>Permanent Resident Card<\/li><li>More listed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsa.gov\/travel\/security-screening\/identification\">here<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How Do You Know If You Have a REAL ID?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There are currently five different symbols used to denote a\nREAL ID on a driver\u2019s license or REAL ID:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Gold star<\/li><li>Black star<\/li><li>Gold circle with a star cutout<\/li><li>Black circle with a star cutout<\/li><li>Gold grizzly bear with a star cutout<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Four states issue REAL ID and state-issued driver\u2019s licenses\nthat are both acceptable: Michigan, Vermont, Minnesota and New York. If you are\nnot sure whether or not you have a REAL ID, you can visit your state\u2019s website\nor the Department of Homeland Security for more information.
